If one buys a Medal of Honor legally and wants to wear it what is the problem with doing that?

Bought a Medal Of Honor at a yard sale. ( Medal was from Korea era) Fun to wear it at amusement parks and restaurants. If one buys a Medal of Honor legally and wants to wear it what is the problem with doing that?
You cannot "legally" buy a Medal of Honor (by the way, you just gave yourself away on your patriotism). There is only one company that makes them and right now they are in a heap of trouble for selling thousands for exorbitant amounts. By the way, what branch of the service was it.

If a Legion member saw you wearing it (for that matter, any Vet), you would be turned in fo the Stolen Valor Act.

John S- Congress has nothing to do with the MoH. That's just a Hollywood thang.

For all you Wiki people- remember anyone can edit anything on that website.

Erudite, look at all the places you put capital letters.
I still say, it showed that your Patriotism and your Pride.

I've seen fights over soldiers displaying infantry/airborne stickers when they weren't in those units. There is no higher honor than the Congressional Medal of Honor so I can only imagine what would rain down on this pathetic poser. He obviously has never served our great country- he's a disgrace.

How about that.

i'm sorry your life is filled with such self loathing. your disrespect makes me wonder why you remain in a country up on which you continue to spit and disrespect.

may God have mercy upon you
It's not just a shiney thing to be worn...

It represents an honorable and heroic act, usually ending in the death of the person who earned it.

You obviously have no concept of honor or the disrespect you show when you wear something you haven't earned.
He's just a troll. There is no way to buy a Medal of Honor legally, they cannot be sold, only awarded.

Thanks to the Stolen Valor Act, if he had done this, he would have committed a federal crime.

You won't think it fun when some vet rips it off your shirt and you find your self on the floor.
Medal of Honor medals are earned, not bought, and they are bought with great acts of selflessness and heroism..

Wearing it can get you 6 months in jail. The FBI would be happy to arrest you for fraudulent wearing of it.
ANYONE who asks this question doesn't know what a Medal of Honor truly means. it means that a person either has or came very close to giving his life for his country during a great act of bravery.

you might be able to wear it in the house but your lucky that you haven't been decked yet while your wearing it

if you didn't earn it DON'T ******* WEAR IT EVER
$50.00, huh? My bet is that is quite a bargain from the price the actual servicemember who earned it paid (probably paid with his life).

This question is sad. I prefer your others questions that have a touch of sillyness.
The CMH is an award for heroism in battle. It not some trinket to be picked up and worn like a piece of costume jewelry. You could get in trouble wearing it in public. Not just with the local veterans but it is a felony to impersonate a soldier. You could face ten years in prison and a$100,000 fine.Buying the medal does not give you the right to wear it.If you want one so badly,Join the military and earn one for yourself. Then you will understand why people get upset when you casually wear it.
Thats not something you just wear around without doing anything, its pretty disgraceful that you don't see anything wrong with this.
The Medal of Honor is the most distinguished and coveted award that a service member can get. Just about every recipient of this award gave their life or came close to it performing sefless acts to save the lives of others. It's extremely disrespectful for you to wear this award as if it's nothing. Veterans get upset and will continue to get upset because when you wear that medal you are spitting in their faces, and on the graves of those that recieved that medal.

I'm also sure that you are either lying or definately have a fake, because nobody would sell one at a yard sell.
Let me see you wearing it, you wont be for long. How about you take yourself up to the recruiter and make the sacrifice like the rest of us that has served our great country. The men that received those medals have sacrificed so much.
Title 18 of the U.S. Code prohibits non recipients from wearing The Medal of Honor you could be arrested and charged and receive up to six months jail time and a fine, this also applies to unauthorized wearing of the Distinguished service Cross, Navy Cross and Air Force Cross. (Note: there is no such thing as a CMH or Congressional Medal of Honor it is the Medal of Honor and is awarded by act of Congress . and their are no Medal of Honor winners they are Medal of Honor Recipients ) Nobody ever won this medal most Died to receive it.
Its a dishonor to everyone who has earned that medel, that's so disrespectful if you want to wear one you should join the military and earn one, and I'm not an angry person but if i ever saw someone who did not earn it i would knock them the fu(k out. Its just a really rude thing to wear that, I suggest that you just keep it in a box in your house that would be best
YOU HAVE TO EARN IT. The men who get the Medal of Honor or real heros. The Military personell who see you with it on take it as an insult when a civilian wants to take pride in one of their fellow soldiers doing. I prefer you dont where it.
You should be ashamed of yourself , wearing something that another person earned through bravery and no doubt bloodshed. You were probably a draft dodger anyway. Anything more that I say will cause me to get a nasty note from yahoo, but I think you get my meaning.
You are dealing with the same phenomenon with kilts. Wearing a kilt of a clan that is not your family's will offend many Scots. A medal of honor is just that - commending one for incredible bravery, and it is often awarded after death and given to the family. So you can see how folks may be very offended.

That said, I agree that wearing such a thing is fun! It also keeps it out there, so to speak. Perhaps you could go back to where you got it and ask about its history. Then when people bug you, you can tell them the story - if it's legitimate.

Be advised that you very well may be fined or jailed in certain areas for wearing the medal. It is THE HIGHEST HONOR awarded in the US military.

The medal way also be a fake, as a company was selling bogus ones for $75 each.

Other posters are rather rude to you, but they should keep in mind that the medal is not without its own controversies, including racial discrimination. And I served in the military, and I don't care how many honorable soldiers and airmen there are out there - the US military has its very serious defects, such as massive overspending. I did very much enjoy serving my country regardless.

I like your renegade style - and be prepared to run or at least act dumb when confronted - or lie and say it was your grandfather's.

You wear it at your own risk, but risks can be a real thrill!
